Dün gibi hatırlıyorum kendimi Bell & Sebastian'ın solisti Stuart Murdoch'un Youtube'a koyduğu videoyu izlerken. Yetenekli Bay Murdoch, God Help The Girl film projesinden bahsediyor ve bağışta bulunmalarını rica ediyordu izleyicilerden. God Help The Girl'ün büyük bir fanı olan ben ise bu haber ile havalara uçmuştum. Aradan 3 yıl geçti ve film sonunda gösterime girdi.
God Help The Girl'ün hikayesi aslında çok eskiye dayanıyor. Stuart Murdoch bir gün koşuya çıkıyor ve bir melodi taklılıyor aklına. Ancak, bunun bir Bella & Sebastian şarkısı olmadığını fark ediyor. Kadın vokalleri, telli çalgıları, her şeyi tümüyle duyabiliyor fakat, kendisini bu şarkıyı grubuyla söylerken hayal edemiyor. I can still remember as if it were yesterday. Stuart Murdoch, the lead singer of Bella & Sebastian, put a video on Youtube. The talented Mr. Murdoch was talking about the God Help The Girl Movie Project and asking for donations. As a big fan of God Help The Girl, I was over the moon by the wonderful news. It's been 3 years since then and the movie is out now.
Actually, the story of God Help The Girl goes a long way back. One day Stuart Murdoch goes for a run and a tune gets stuck in his head, but he realizes that it's not a Belle & Sebastian song. He can hear female voices and strings, he can hear the whole thing, but he just can't envisage himself singing it with the group. After that, he searches for new voices and starts a competition. It attracts nearly 400 entries and among those Brittany Stallings and Dina Bankole are chosen. Then the main discovery of the project, Catherine Ireton, joins them. They start to record and the result is a tasteful record. A musical journey starts and at the end God Help The Girl Movie Project happens.
Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, who we know from Years & Years and Hannay Murray, who is best known as Cassie in Skins, share the leading roles of the movie. This movie should be the first one on your must-see list!
